If you’ve been following my tabletop setup videos for a while, you probably know I’ve been using the first-generation Magicrate GM Kit for years. I’ve had it beside me for countless sessions, but when I saw that Curations by Kira was launching the Magicrate Reforged, I knew I had to check it out.
After three years with the original, I finally got my hands on the newest version—and wow. The upgrades are phenomenal. If you’re a Game Master who loves a little extra flair (and functionality) at your table, this one’s for you.
The GM Screen: From Fixed Art to Custom Panels
The first thing you’ll notice is the new GM screen.
The original had a beautiful dragon design, but you were stuck with it forever. The Reforged version completely changes the game with replaceable art panels—dozens of designs from various artists, including the ones featured in this post from @StonerAdvisoryArt on Instagram. You can even create your own panels to match your campaign’s theme if you know how to 3D print.
They also added subtle design details, like textured hinges that look amazing with a bit of dry brushing. And for function? The new diamond-grid base lets you attach accessories like mini shelves and magnetic note holders. The little diamond magnets make it easy to pin stat blocks or initiative notes right where you need them.
Initiative Trackers: Small Tweaks, Big Difference
The new initiative trackers look similar at first glance, but Magicrate refined them in smart ways.
They now have a paperclip-style bend that grips your notes more securely, and the slots fit more snugly into the GM screen. The best part? They’re backward compatible with the old system, so your existing tokens and trackers will still fit.
Dice Towers & Boxes: More Stable, More Storage
The new dice towers have been redesigned to fit tighter on the screen—no more wobbling or top-heavy mishaps. They even added a little viewing window so your players can watch their doom roll in real time.
But the dice boxes are my favorite improvement. The first generation looked great but weren’t practical: loose lids, tight dice fit, and no room for extras. The new ones fix all of that—they’re snug, magnetic, and spacious enough for ~two sets of dice, pencils, condition markers, and magnets. You can tell they were designed by people who actually play TTRPGs.
Mini Storage: Smoother, Sturdier, Smarter
The drawer system is now much sturdier, with a thicker, more luxurious plastic.
The drawers glide smoothly and even have label areas for easy organization. Large boxes now open from the top instead of the front, giving you extra staging space for minis or terrain without displacing what’s in front of them. It’s one of those quality-of-life improvements you don’t realize you need until you have it.
HP Trackers & Dice Jail
The old health tracker was functional but fragile. The new one? Perfect.
High-contrast, smooth-sliding dials let you easily track up to six enemies with hundreds-place dice slots. It’s fast, intuitive, and satisfying to use.
And for fun, they’ve added a dice jail that clips into the diamond grid on the gm screen—perfect for punishing misbehaving d20s. It’s a silly but delightful touch that makes the kit feel personal and alive.
Final Thoughts
The Magicrate Reforged feels like the best version of itself: more luxurious, more functional, and just plain more fun. Every change feels intentional.
If you already loved the original, this is absolutely worth upgrading to. And if you’re new to Magicrate, there’s never been a better time to jump in.
